How to build an Ikea Vardö underbed storage box drawers

Last updated: 18 Oct 2022

Vardö (Vardoe) is a flat pack assembly Ikea underbed drawers (storage box) made from fibreboard, particleboard and polyester cover (measuring 70 cm long by 65 cm wide).

We recommend at least one person for this build.

Assembley instructions

  1. Screw two cam dowels (118331) into the inside middle holes of the front panel.
  2. Insert dowls (109041) into the side panels. There are two holes either end. Do this for both side panels (so eight dowels altogether).
  3. Attach side panels into front panel via dowels. Screw cam lock nuts (119252, 119250) clockwise into the two cam lock nut holes on front panel.
  4. Decide if you want the drawer to go under the bed via the longest or shortest side. Either is fine. Using the screws provided (109041) screw wheels (11402) onto the two underdrawer slats facing the direction that the bed will roll under bed. There are three holes for each wheel so they can be attached either way.
  5. Insert two dowels (101345) either end of the underdrawer slats. Attach with the front panel.
  6. Slide drawer bottom via recesses in side panel.
  7. Screw two cam dowels (118331) into the inside middle holes of the back panel.
  8. Attach side panels onto back panel via dowels. Screw cam lock nut clockwise into the two cam lock nut holes on back panel.
  9. All done. Apart from adding the cover. See tip below.

Tips

Instead of measuring the distance of each screw (114588). Add one screw in any corner. Then pop on cover to that corner and position cover over drawer. Press hard at each popper (seven of them) onto the drawer sides. This will leave an imprint which you can then align the remaining screws too.
